Pioneering Academic Cooperation: University of Anbar and UKM Malaysia Towards Global Research Horizons

In a strategic move to enhance international research cooperation, and under the guidance and follow-up of the University President, Professor Dr. Mushtaq Talib Al-Nada, the College of Science and Technology at UKM Malaysia received a high-level delegation from the University of Anbar, Iraq, on May 27, 2025. The visit aimed to activate previously signed memoranda of understanding and discuss opportunities for strategic cooperation in the fields of research and development, and undergraduate and graduate academic programs. The meeting brought together the Dean of the College of Science and Technology at UKM, Professor Issac Ahmed, and his staff, along with a delegation from Anbar University. The meeting was attended by the Dean of the College of Applied Sciences-Hit, Assistant Professor Dr. Rasim Faraj Muslim, and the Assistant Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Ahmed Mishal Mohammed, representing the Dean of the College of Science. The meeting resulted in very positive outcomes, most notably cooperation in publishing international patents and joint international research, joint supervision of master's and doctoral students, the provision of research grants, and joint discussions for graduate students (in person and online). The meeting also included the formation of joint research teams, participation as editors in the scientific journals of both universities, and the conduct of measurements of research samples in the laboratories of both parties. It also included inviting visiting professors and exchanging visits between the relevant colleges, and providing scholarships for graduate students from the two universities' colleges of science, as well as scholarships for bachelor's degree holders and faculty members in master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs. This cooperation is expected to contribute significantly to enhancing academic development, research excellence, and the international reputation of both universities, opening up promising prospects for scientific cooperation between Malaysia and Iraq.
