About the College
About the College of Applied Sciences – Hit The College of Applied Sciences – Hit was established in the academic year 2014-2015, located in the city of Hit, approximately 70 kilometers west of Ramadi, the capital of Al-Anbar Governorate. The college was founded to expand the scope of higher education in Iraq. Its establishment aims to create an academic institution that contributes to preparing specialized scientific staff who play an active role in building and advancing society, providing learning opportunities to the largest possible number of individuals, preparing the future generation, and ensuring their livelihood. The inauguration of the college coincided with the severe attacks on Al-Anbar Governorate, which led to the displacement of its residents to other governorates. Consequently, the college temporarily relocated to Baghdad, where it completed three academic years during the displacement period. In 2017, the college returned to its original location in the city of Hit. At its inception, the college comprised two departments: the Department of Life Physics and the Department of Environment. Due to the increasing demands of the labor market and the actual need for highly qualified graduates, the college expanded by establishing a third department, the Department of Applied Chemistry, and worked towards opening a fourth department, the Department of Medical Laboratory sciences. Evening studies were also introduced for the three departments to meet all actual needs of the academic staff. In compliance with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s orientation towards adopting the Bologna system, the college transitioned to the Bologna system in the academic year 2023-2024. This shift aims to provide diverse teaching methods enabling students to better comprehend the curricula and achieve higher success rates. This educational system includes seminars, assignments, and many educational activities that stimulate students’ cognitive abilities. The college promptly responded to all developmental plan requirements through horizontal expansion by increasing the number of undergraduate programs and vertical expansion by launching postgraduate studies. The postgraduate program (Master’s degree) in the Department of Applied Chemistry was opened for the academic year 2025-2026. The competitive examination was held on schedule, followed by the selection of accepted students according to the regulations and instructions issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for this year. A specialized committee composed of distinguished scientific figures in this field was formed for this purpose.
